BLESSING OF CHILDREN

The miracle of a husband and wife is the birth of a child. Looking upon the face of a newborn child is to see a wonder and marvel of beauty borne out of love between a man and woman. Every child brought into this world is perfection of innocence with a desire to simply be loved. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”[1] All children are precious in the sight of God, and for this reason, we will ask our Holy Father to bless this child, whose given name is <CHILD>. Let us pray.

“Holy Father, I humbly beseech You to incline Your ear and hear my prayer for this child <CHILD’S NAME> that I ask on behalf of [his/her] <PARENT’S NAME>. I now anoint this child in Your presence to set [him/her] apart unto You, O God, that [he/she] may receive Your blessings in this life. I ask that You keep [him/her] from all evil, giving [him/her] a humble heart and mind to fulfill Your purposes and will for [him/her]. Let [him/her] be firmly established in Your love and under Your protection, supplying what [he/she] needs to endure all things to Your glory, O God. Grant [him/her] a zeal to seek you early[2] so that You may guide [him/her] in Your ways, setting [his/her] heart on the things that are above, the things that are true, just, and pure.

“Holy Father, let <PARENT’S NAME> abound in wisdom, humbly looking to You to supply all their needs to raise <CHILD’S NAME> to be pleasing in Your sight. Let their love for each other flourish before you, being forever bound together through this precious child.

“And now, merciful Father, I pray the blessing You spoke for all Your children upon <CHILD’S NAME> and <PARENT’S NAME>: ‘The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.’[3]

AMEN!
