BIBLE STUDY—the Day Of Covering (Atonement) Events
1) Introduction
a) Holydays portray different aspects of God’s plan of salvation for humanity. The Day of Atonement is in time-sequence between the Day of Trumpets and the Feast of Tabernacles. Trumpets portrays the time of the Great Tribulation and Day of the LORD that brings unheard of destruction and death to much of the world. The 1,000 year reign of Jesus Christ is portrayed by Tabernacles. The Day of Atonement must portray events that occur between Trumpets and Tabernacles but what are the events tied to it?
b) The vengeance of God upon this evil world causes massive and widespread destruction to the earth. The Millennium is a time of unprecedented peace and prosperity under the King Jesus Christ. But who are the people that He reigns over? Where do they come from? It seems logical that it would have something to do with the people who live into the millennialrule of Jesus Christ since the Day of Atonement is between these two times. But does the Bible mention it?
c) NOTE: I will hereafter refer to the Day of ‘Atonement’ as the Day of Covering or Yom Kippur since kippur always means COVERING, never atonement. Refer to the Sabbath Thought 2025-08-30 Day of Atonement or Day of Covering? for proofs of COVERING versus ATONEMENT.
2) Feast of Ingathering (Day of Trumpets, Day of COVERING (KIPPUR), Feast of Tabernacles)
a) The three festivals of God are Unleavened Bread, Weeks, and Ingathering:
i) EXODUS 23:14-16 “Three times you shall keep a feast to Me [the LORD] in the year: 15 “You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread (you shall eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month of Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt; none shall appear before Me empty); 16 “and the Feast of Harvest [of] the Firstfruits of your labors which you have sown in the field; and the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you have gathered in the fruit of your labors from the field.
ii) EXODUS 34:18, 22-23 “The Feast of Unleavened Bread you shall keep. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I [the LORD] commanded you, in the appointed time of the month of Abib; for in the month of Abib you came out from Egypt. … 22 “And you shall observe the Feast of Weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the year’s end. 23 “Three times in the year all your men shall appear before the Lord, the LORD God of Israel.
b) God’s holydays occur three times or seasons each year. They are the Feast of Unleavened Bread in the early spring, Feast of the Harvest of the Firstfruits in the late spring, and the Feast of Ingathering in the autumn. The second and third are both HARVEST times; specifically, harvests of mankind in God’s plan of salvation. The last one, the Feast of Ingathering, includes three holydays—Day of Trumpets, Day of Covering (Yom Kippur), and Feast of Tabernacles. They are different phases of the Feast of Ingathering. The INGATHERING of a HARVEST is when crops are harvested and brought into storage. The last three holydays tell the story of the Great Harvest of mankind into God’s kingdom. One might expect that an abundance of prophecy describes the Great Harvest and, as it turns out, there are MANY scriptures—more than you might think, especially pertaining to the Day of Covering.
i) Below are the English names of God’s feasts and holydays as translated in most Bibles. These are followed by the Hebrew name in italics and then the literal English translation:
1) Passover = Pesach = Passover
2) Feast of Unleavened Bread = Hag HaMatzot = Festival of Matzah
3) Feast of the Harvest of Firstfruits (aka Pentecost) = Shavuot = Weeks
4) Feast of Ingathering = Rosh Hashanah = Head of the Year:
a) Day of Trumpets = Yom Teruah = Day of Sounding [the Shofar is implied].
b) Day of Atonement = Yom Kippur = Day of Covering.
c) Feast of Tabernacles = Sukkot = Booths.
3) DAY OF COVERING
a) The events of the Day of Covering are readily apparent but no more so than in Joel 2 where each of the holydays of the Feast of Ingathering—Day of Trumpets, Day of Covering, and Feast of Tabernacles—are described in sequence. Reading through Joel 2 will bring out the main events of all three and especially the Day of Covering.
4) Joel 2:1-11—Day of TRUMPETS
a) Verses 1-11 describe events of the Day of the LORD (part of the Day of Trumpets).
b) JOEL 2:1-11 Blow the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; for the day of the LORD [vengeance of God—part of the Day of Trumpets] is coming, for it is at hand: 2 A day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, like the morning clouds spread over the mountains. A people come, great and strong, the like of whom has never been; nor will there ever be any such after them, even for many successive generations. 3 A fire devours before them, and behind them a flame burns; the land is like the Garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; surely nothing shall escape them. 4 Their appearance is like the appearance of horses; and like swift steeds, so they run. 5 With a noise like chariots over mountaintops they leap, like the noise of a flaming fire that devours the stubble, like a strong people set in battle array. 6 Before them the people writhe in pain; all faces are drained of color. 7 They run like mighty men, they climb the wall like men of war; every one marches in formation, and they do not break ranks. 8 They do not push one another; every one marches in his own column. Though they lunge between the weapons, they are not cut down. 9 They run to and fro in the city, they run on the wall; they climb into the houses, they enter at the windows like a thief. 10 The earth quakes before them, the heavens tremble; the sun and moon grow dark, and the stars diminish their brightness. 11 The LORD gives voice before His army, for His camp is very great; for strong is the One who executes His word. For the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; who can endure it?
i) The “appearance of horses” (v 4) is like the armies that “hurt men five months” in Rev. 9:1-12 (Trumpet #5, Woe #1).
5) Joel 2:12-20—Day of Covering
a) Verses 12-20 describe events of the Day of Covering. This is AFTER the Day of Trumpets in verses 1-11 and BEFORE Tabernacles in verses 21-27 and the Great White Throne Judgment in verses 28-29.
b) GOD CALLS THE CAPTIVES TO TURN TO HIM WITH FASTING, WEEPING, MOURNING (THEY ARE AFFLICTED)
i) JOEL 2:12-15a “Now, therefore,” says the LORD, “Turn [H7725 = shuwb] to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.” 13 So rend your heart, and not your garments; return [H7725 = shuwb] to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness; and He relents [yield to pity] from doing harm. 14 Who knows if He will turn [H7725 = shuwb] and relent [yield to pity], and leave a blessing behind Him– a grain offering and a drink offering For the LORD your God?
1) These verses follow the events of the Day of the LORD. God calls the captives that survive the Day of the LORD to turn to Him with FASTING, weeping, and mourning.
ii) God prophesied they will hear Him in that day (Day of Covering):
1) EZEKIEL 20:39 “As for you, O house of Israel,” thus says the Lord GOD: “Go, serve every one of you his idols [this is before the Day of the LORD]–and afterwards [the Day of the LORD] [you will surely hearken to Me—FV] [but] profane My holy name no more with your gifts and your idols.
iii) The people are terribly AFFLICTED:
1) PSALM 107:18 Their soul abhorred all manner of food, and they drew near to the gates of death [no will to live]. 19 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses. 20 He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
c) A TRUMPET IS SOUNDED
i) JOEL 2:15a Blow the trumpet [H7782 = showphar] in Zion, …
1) ISAIAH 27:13 And it shall come to pass in that day [Day of Covering], that the great trumpet [H7782 = showphar] shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts [rescued captives] in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.
d) THE RESCUED CAPTIVES ARE GATHERED & CLEANSED
i) The rescued captives are gathered together (to Jerusalem—see below) and sanctified (CLEANSED) of their sins so they can be in the presence of the King Jesus Christ (He returned at the 7th trumpet).
ii) JOEL 2:15-16 Blow the trumpet in Zion, consecrate [sanctify = observe as clean] a fast, call [proclaim] a sacred assembly; 16 gather the people [from captivity], sanctify [H6942 = qadash = cleanse] the congregation [assembly of people], assemble the elders, gather the children and nursing babes; let the bridegroom go out from his chamber, and the bride from her dressing room.
1) The people are sanctified, which is cleansed.
2) ISAIAH 27:9 Therefore by this the iniquity of Jacob will be covered [H3722 = kaphar]; and this is all the fruit of taking away [setting aside] his sin: …
3) EZEKIEL 20:40-41 “For on My holy mountain [Jerusalem], on the mountain height of Israel,” says the Lord GOD, “there all the house of Israel, all of them in the land, shall serve Me; there I will accept [H7521 = ratsah = pardon] them, and there I will require your offerings and the firstfruits of your sacrifices, together with all your holy things. 41 “I will accept [H7521 = ratsah = pardon] you as a sweet aroma when I bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you have been scattered; and I will be hallowed in [H6942 = qadash = cleanse] you before the Gentiles.
a) God pardons or CLEANSES the sins of the rescued captives.
e) THE PRIESTS PLEAD WITH GOD TO SAVE THE CAPTIVES
i) JOEL 2:17 Let the priests, who minister to the LORD, weep between the porch [portico] and the altar; let them say, “Spare [H2347 = cover] Your people, O LORD, and do not give Your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’
1) The priests plead with God to spare the people. The Hebrew word also means to COVER them.
2) The priests are CHOSEN from among the rescued captives. These are Israelites, not Gentiles. Israel was originally to be a NATION of priests (Exod. 19:6):
a) ISAIAH 61:6 But you [the rescued captives] shall be named the priests of the LORD, they shall call you the servants of our God. You shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory you shall boast.
f) THE RESCUED CAPTIVES ARE FED BY JESUS CHRIST AS THEY JOURNEY
i) JOEL 2:18-19 Then the LORD will be zealous for His land, and pity [H2550 = chamal = spare] His people. 19 The LORD will answer and say to His people, “Behold, I will send you grain and new wine and oil, and you will be satisfied by them; I will no longer make you a reproach among the nations.
1) ISAIAH 49:9-12 That You may say to the prisoners, ‘Go forth,’ to those who are in darkness, ‘Show yourselves.’ They shall feed along the roads, and their pastures shall be on all desolate heights. “They shall feed along the roads, and their pastures shall be on all desolate heights. 10 They shall neither hunger nor thirst, neither heat nor sun shall strike them; for He [Jesus Christ] who has mercy on them will lead them, even by the springs of water He will guide them. 11 I will make each of My mountains a road, and My highways shall be elevated. 12 Surely these shall come from afar; Look! Those from the north and the west, and these from the land of Sinim.”
g) THE RESCUED CAPTIVES ARE GATHERED TO JERUSALEM
i) PSALM 147:2 The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers together the outcasts [rescued captives] of Israel.
ii) ISAIAH 27:12-13 And it shall come to pass in that day that the LORD will thresh, from the channel of the [Euphrates] River to the Brook of Egypt; and you will be gathered one by one, O you children of Israel. 13 So it shall be in that day [Day of Covering]: the great trumpet will be blown; they [the rescued captives] will come, who are about to perish in the land of Assyria, and they who are outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.
h) THE RESCUED CAPTIVES ENTER INTO A COVENANT
i) After the rescued captives are gathered before the King Jesus Christ in Jerusalem and cleansed, they enter into a covenant with Him:
1) ISAIAH 61:8 “For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery for burnt offering; I will direct their work in truth, and will make with them [the rescued captives] an everlasting covenant.
2) ISAIAH 49:8 Thus says the LORD [God the Father]: “In an acceptable time [the Jubilee year when the captives are rescued] I have heard You [Jesus Christ], and in the day of salvation I have helped You [Jesus Christ]; I [God the Father] will preserve You [Jesus Christ] and give You [Jesus Christ] as a covenant to the people, to restore the earth, to cause them to inherit the desolate heritages;
ii) It is a COVENANT of PEACE:
1) EZEKIEL 34:25 “I [the LORD] will make a covenant of peace with them, and cause wild beasts to cease from the land; and they will dwell safely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods.
i) THE NORTHERN “ARMY” IS DRIVEN INTO A WILDERNESS
i) God removes the Northern Army (Host) from among the rescued captives:
ii) JOEL 2:20 “But I will remove far from you the northern army [host], and will drive him away into a barren and desolate land [a wilderness], with his face toward the eastern sea and his back toward the western sea; his stench will come up, and his foul odor will rise, because he has done monstrous things.”
1) The word army is added. The Hebrew text reads, “I will remove far from you the NORTHERNER” (TS2009). The Bible describes them as a large number or host of people. Further references to the Northern Army will be as the “Northern Host.”
2) PSALM 68:6, 30 God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound [rescued captives] into prosperity; but the rebellious dwell in a dry land [wilderness]. … 30 Rebuke the beasts of the reeds, the herd of bulls with the calves of the peoples, till everyone submits himself with pieces of silver. Scatter the peoples who delight in war.
iii) The Northern Host could be the nations that will be the rod of God’s punishment upon Israel, Egypt, Babylon, etc.
1) DANIEL 11:40-45 “At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through. 41 “He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon. 42 “He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 43 “He shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow at his heels. 44 “But news from the east and the north shall trouble him; therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many. 45 “And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him.
iv) In the end, Jesus Christ will slaughter the Northern Host:
1) JEREMIAH 46:6-10 “Do not let the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they will stumble and fall toward the north, by the River Euphrates. 7 “Who is this coming up like a flood, whose waters move like the rivers? 8 Egypt rises up like a flood, and its waters move like the rivers; and he says, ‘I will go up and cover the earth, I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.’ 9 Come up, O horses, and rage, O chariots! And let the mighty men come forth: the Ethiopians and the Libyans who handle the shield, and the Lydians who handle and bend the bow. 10 For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that He may avenge Himself on His adversaries. the sword shall devour; it shall be satiated and made drunk with their blood; for the Lord GOD of hosts has a sacrifice In the north country by the River Euphrates.
j) REBELS ARE PURGED FROM AMONG THE RESCUED CAPTIVES
i) EZEKIEL 20:33-38 “As I live,” says the Lord GOD, “surely with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, I will rule over you. 34 “I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out. 35 “And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will plead My case [enter into judgment—TS2009] with you face to face. 36 “Just as I pleaded My case [enter into judgment—TS2009] with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will plead My case [enter into judgment—TS2009] with you,” says the Lord GOD. 37 “I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant; 38 “I will purge the rebels from among you, and those who transgress against Me; I will bring them out of the country where they dwell, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
1) God will sift the rescued captives (“pass under the rod”—v. 37) and purge the rebels among them who will be exiled to a “wilderness” outside the land of Israel.
k) THE RESCUED CAPTIVES WILL RESTORE THE EARTH
i) ISAIAH 61:4 And they [the rescued captives] shall rebuild the old ruins, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations.
ii) ISAIAH 49:8 Thus says the LORD [God the Father]: “In an acceptable time [the Jubilee year] I have heard You [Jesus Christ], and in the day of salvation I have helped You [Jesus Christ]; I [God the Father] will preserve You [Jesus Christ] and give You [Jesus Christ] as a covenant to the people, to restore the earth, to cause them [the rescued captives] to inherit the desolate heritages;
iii) ISAIAH 27:5-6 Or let him take hold of My strength, that he may make peace with Me; and he shall make peace with Me.” 6 Those who come He shall cause to take root in Jacob; Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit [restore the earth].
iv) PSALM 68:6 God [makes a home for the lonely—TS2009]; He brings out those who are bound [captive] into prosperity; but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.
l) THE DAY OF COVERING IS LIKELY A YEAR LONG
i) ISAIAH 61:1-2 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD [God the Father] is upon Me [Jesus Christ], because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD [Day of Covering], and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn,
1) God the Father anointed Jesus Christ to PROCLAIM liberty to the captives and the acceptable year. Jesus fulfilled this in Luke 4:16-21.
ii) ISAIAH 63:4 For the day of vengeance is in My heart, and the year of My redeemed [rescued captives] has come.
1) The redeemed are the rescued captives who are the focus of the Day of Covering. Scripture indicates this is a year of time that follows the Day of the LORD, which is the “year of recompense [or vengeance]”—Isa. 34:8.
6) SIMILARITIES OF EVENTS with the Day of Covering
a) PEOPLE ARE LIBERATED FROM BONDAGE & RETURN (SHUWB) FROM CAPTIVITY
i) LEVITICUS 25:10, 13 ‘And you shall consecrate [H6942 = qadash = make clean] the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a Jubilee for you; and each of you shall return [H7725 = shuwb] to his possession, and each of you shall [H7725 = shuwb] to his family. … 13 ‘In this Year of Jubilee, each of you shall return [shuwb] to his possession.
1) Recall that Joel 2:12-14 uses the same Hebrew word shuwb.
b) SOULS ARE AFFLICTED
i) The Day of Covering is a day to afflict one’s soul (fasting):
1)
LEVITICUS 23:27-32 “Also the tenth day of this seventh
month shall be the Day of Atonement [H3725 = kippur =
Covering]. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall
afflict your souls [fast], and offer an offering made by fire to
the LORD. 28 “And you shall do no work on that same day, for it is the Day
of Atonement [H3725 = kippur = Covering], to make
atonement [H3722 = kaphar = cover (sins)] for you before the
LORD your God. 29 “For any person who is not afflicted in soul on that
same day shall be cut off from his people. 30 “And any person who does any work
on that same day, that person I will destroy from among his people. 31 “You
shall do no manner of work; it shall be a statute forever throughout
your generations in all your dwellings. 32 “It shall be to you a sabbath
of solemn rest, and you shall afflict your souls; on the
ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you shall
celebrate your sabbath.”
2) LEVITICUS 16:29, 31 “This shall be a statute forever for you: In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls [fast], and do no work at all, whether a native of your own country or a stranger who dwells among you. … 31 “It is a sabbath of solemn rest for you, and you shall afflict your souls [fast]. It is a statute forever.
a) Verse 28: kippur = COVERING (noun), kaphar = TO COVER (verb).
b) Those who do not afflict their souls are CUT OFF from the people—purged or “pass under the rod” and sent into the “wilderness” (Joel 2).
c) TRUMPET IS SOUNDED
i) The Day of Covering is when the Jubilee trumpet is blown to sound the beginning of the Jubilee year:
1)
LEVITICUS 25:9 Then shalt thou cause the trumpet [H7782 = showphar]
of the Jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the
day of Atonement [H3725 = kippur = Covering]
shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.
a) The Hebrew word for trumpet is shofar.
d) PEOPLE ARE CLEANSED
i) The Day of Covering CLEANSES the nation of Israel so they can come “before the LORD”:
1)
LEVITICUS 16:29-31, 33 “This shall be a statute forever for you: In
the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall
afflict your souls [fast], and do no work at all, whether a
native of your own country or a stranger who dwells among you. 30 “For on
that day the priest shall make atonement [H3722 = kaphar
= cover (sins)] for you, to cleanse you, that you may be clean from
all your sins before the LORD. 31 “It is a sabbath of solemn
rest for you, and you shall afflict your souls. It is a statute forever.
… 33 “then he shall make atonement [H3722 = kaphar = cover
(sins)] for the Holy Sanctuary, and he shall make atonement [H3722
= kaphar = cover (sins)] for the tabernacle of meeting and for the
altar, and he shall make atonement [H3722 = kaphar
= cover (sins)] for the priests and for all the people of the assembly.
2) LEVITICUS 25:10 ‘And you shall consecrate [H6942 = qadash = make clean] the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a Jubilee for you; and each of you shall return to his possession, and each of you shall return to his family.
e) THE JUBILEE IS A YEAR
i) The Jubilee YEAR begins on the Day of Covering and people are released from servitude and bondage:
1) LEVITICUS 25:10 ‘And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a Jubilee [year] for you; and each of you shall return [H7725 = shuwb (recall Joel 2:12-14] to his possession, and each of you shall return [H7725 = shuwb] to his family.
a) The Jubilee is a RETURN from bondage and slavery.
f) REBELS ARE CUTOFF (PURGED)
i) Those who refuse to afflict their souls on the Day of Covering are cutoff.
1)
LEVITICUS 23:27, 29 “Also the tenth day of this seventh
month shall be the Day of Atonement [H3725 = kippur =
Covering]. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall
afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the LORD. … 29 “For
any person who is not afflicted in soul on that same day shall
be cut off from his people.
g) ALL OF THESE ONLY OCCUR ON THE DAY OF COVERING (YOM KIPPUR)
7) Joel 2:21-27—TABERNACLES
a) Verses 21-27 describe events of Tabernacles. This is AFTER the Day of Covering in verses 12-20.
b) JOEL 2:21-27 Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice, for the LORD has done marvelous things! 22 Do not be afraid, you beasts of the field; for the open pastures are springing up, and the tree bears its fruit; the fig tree and the vine yield their strength. 23 Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God; for He has given you the former rain faithfully, and He will cause the rain to come down for you– the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month. 24 The threshing floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil. 25 “So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the crawling locust, the consuming locust, and the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you. 26 You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you; and My people shall never be put to shame. 27 Then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel: I am the LORD your God and there is no other. My people shall never be put to shame.
i) During the millennial rule of Jesus Christ there will be abundance.
8) Joel 2:28-29—Great White Throne Judgment
a) Verses 28-29 describe events of Great White Throne Judgment. This is AFTER Tabernacles in verses 21-27.
b) JOEL 2:28-29 “And it shall come to pass afterward [after the 1,000 years] that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. 29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.
i) ALL flesh includes all who have ever lived. They are the “rest of the dead [who] did not live again until the thousand years were finished” (Rev. 20:5).
9) JOEL 2:30-32—RECAP of Trumpets
a) There is a short recap at the end of chapter 2 of Trumpets:
b) JOEL 2:30-31 “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood and fire and pillars of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD.
10) JOEL 2:32—RECAP of the DAY OF COVERING
a) After the recap of Trumpets there is also a summary of the Day of Covering:
b) JOEL 2:32 And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved [delivered]. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance [salvation], as the LORD has said, among the remnant [rescued captives] whom the LORD calls.
11) Joel 3:1-3—Day of Covering
a) Verses 1-3 describe events of the Day of Covering. These are a continuation of Joel 2:32.
b) JOEL 3:1-3 “For behold, in those days [the Day of Covering] and at that time, when I [the LORD] bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem, 2 I will also gather all nations, and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; and I will enter into judgment with them there on account of My people, My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; they have also divided up My land. 3 They have cast lots for My people, have given a boy as payment for a harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they may drink.
12) Joel 3:4-17—Day of Trumpets
a) Verses 4-17 describe events of the Day of the LORD (part of the Day of Trumpets). This is AFTER the Day of Covering in verses 1-3.
b) JOEL 3:4-17 “Indeed, what have you to do with Me, O Tyre and Sidon, and all the coasts of Philistia? Will you retaliate against Me? But if you retaliate against Me, swiftly and speedily I will return your retaliation upon your own head; 5 because you have taken My silver and My gold, and have carried into your temples My prized possessions. 6 Also the people of Judah and the people of Jerusalem you have sold to the Greeks, that you may remove them far from their borders. 7 “Behold, I will raise them out of the place to which you have sold them, and will return your retaliation upon your own head. 8 I will sell your sons and your daughters Into the hand of the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans, to a people far off; for the LORD has spoken.” 9 Proclaim this among the nations: “Prepare for war! Wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near, let them come up. 10 Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears; let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’ “ 11 Assemble and come, all you nations, and gather together all around. Cause Your mighty ones to go down there, O LORD. 12 “Let the nations be wakened, and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; for there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations. 13 Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, go down; for the winepress is full, the vats overflow– for their wickedness is great.” 14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. 15 The sun and moon will grow dark, and the stars will diminish their brightness. 16 The LORD also will roar from Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; the heavens and earth will shake; but the LORD will be a shelter for His people, and the strength of the children of Israel. 17 “So you shall know that I am the LORD your God, dwelling in Zion My holy mountain. Then Jerusalem shall be holy, and no aliens shall ever pass through her again.”
i) God destroys those who enslaved Israel at the Valley of Jehoshaphat.
ii) The darkening of the sun, moon, and stars is the Day of the LORD, the vengeance of God (part of the Day of Trumpets).
13) Joel 3:18-21—Tabernacles
a) JOEL 3:18-21 And it will come to pass in that day that the mountains shall drip with new wine, the hills shall flow with milk, and all the brooks of Judah shall be flooded with water; a fountain shall flow from the house of the LORD and water the Valley of Acacias. 19 “Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom a desolate wilderness, because of violence against the people of Judah, for they have shed innocent blood in their land. 20 But Judah shall abide forever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation. 21 For I will [cleanse] them of the guilt of bloodshed, whom I had not [cleansed]; for the LORD dwells in Zion.”
14) CONCLUSION
a) There are several key phrases in Scripture that indicate whether the text is describing the Day of Trumpets, Day of Covering, or Feast of Tabernacles. For example, “Day of the LORD” is certainly Trumpets whereas themes of rebuilding and abundance point to Tabernacles. A major theme for the Day of Covering is the rescue of captives, the blowing of a trumpet and fasting, and cleansing of sin. There are many more scriptures that pertain to The Day of Covering than included here. A few include Psalms 68, 72, 79, 102, 107, 146, 147; Isaiah 10, 14, 24, 33, 42, 43, 49, 51, 58-61; Jeremiah 30, 31; Ezekiel 20, 34, 37, 39; Lamentations 3; and Amos 9.
b) There are three holydays that comprise the Festival of INGATHERING—God’s Great Harvest of mankind into His Kingdom. The Day of Trumpets is a sequence of seven trumpets recorded in Revelation. The first six trumpets are phases of the Great Tribulation, during which the Beast and False Prophet rise to power and the descendants of the Tribes of Israel are punished for their disobedience. Their biggest sins are idolatry and rebellion. Following the Great Tribulation is the Day of the LORD—seventh trumpet that marks the return of Jesus Christ. He resurrects the Firstfruit saints and takes vengeance upon the world for their punishment of modern Israel. Next, He destroys the Beast, False Prophet, and the incorrigible wicked with the mark of the Beast. Finally, Satan and the demons are bound for 1,000 years in the abyss.
c) The eight days of the Feast of Tabernacles describes a world of peace, prosperity, and abundance in which the King Jesus Christ reigns for 1,000 years. This is followed by the Great White Throne Judgment when the “rest of the dead” are brought up from their graves. Their minds and hearts will be opened to the Gospel of the Kingdom. Like all who will be in God’s Kingdom, there will be a final judgment to eternal life or eternal death. The conclusion of the Great White Throne Judgment is the beginning of an eternal Kingdom under the Great King—God Most High—and Jesus Christ. This post-judgment Kingdom is barely described in the Bible, perhaps because the peace and joy of it are indescribable—beyond any existing words mankind has or can comprehend.
d) In between the Day of Trumpets and the Feast of Tabernacles is the Day of Covering (Yom Kippur). It links those two together. The Day of Covering is, in a sense, another day of trumpets but this time it is the JUBILEE TRUMPET that is sounded, announcing the “acceptable year of the LORD.” The word Isaiah uses for acceptable also means delightful which aptly describes what happens after the suffering and destruction of the Day of Trumpets. The Day of Covering is when the victims and captives of that evil world will turn [showb] to God and cry out to Him in their afflictions with “fasting, weeping, and mourning” to be saved. Jesus Christ will SAVE the survivors, destroy the Northern Host, PURGE the rebels, GATHER the captives to Jerusalem, and CLEANSE them from their sins. They will be brought BEFORE Him at the Temple in Jerusalem to enter into a COVENANT of Peace with Him. These are the people who will be the seed of people planted in the Millennium—they will be the first settlers who begin restoring the earth for the future generations of the 1,000-year rule of Jesus Christ!
15) May God’s grace and peace be upon you!
1) EXTRAS
2) Psalm 107—The Day of Covering
a) Description of the rescued captives (includes a few mentions of the Day of the LORD).
b)
PSALM 107:1-30 Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For
His mercy endures forever. 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD
say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy, 3 and
gathered out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and
from the south. 4 They wandered in the wilderness in a desolate [desert by
the] way; they found no city to dwell in. 5 Hungry and
thirsty, their soul fainted in them. 6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their
trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses. 7 And He led
them forth by the right [straight] way, that they might go to a
city for a dwelling place [Jerusalem]. 8 Oh, that men
would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His
wonderful works to the children of men! 9 For He satisfies the longing
soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness. 10 Those who sat in darkness and
in the shadow of death, bound in affliction and irons [captive]–
11 Because they rebelled against the words of God, and despised the counsel of
the Most High, 12 Therefore He brought down their heart with labor; they fell
down, and there was none to help. 13 Then they cried out to the
LORD in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses. 14 He
brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their chains in
pieces. 15 Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for
His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! 16 For
He has broken the gates of bronze, and cut the bars of iron in two. 17 Fools,
because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, were
afflicted. 18 Their soul abhorred all manner of food, and they drew near
to the gates of death [no will to live]. 19 Then they cried out to the
LORD in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses.
20 He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their
destructions. 21 Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for
His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! 22 Let
them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare His works with
rejoicing. 23 Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do
business on great waters, 24 They see the works of the LORD, and His wonders in
the deep. 25 For He commands and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up the
waves of the sea. 26 They mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the
depths; their soul melts because of trouble. 27 They reel to and
fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end. 28 Then they
cry out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brings them out of their
distresses. 29 He calms the storm, So that its waves are still. 30 Then
they are glad because they are quiet; so He guides them to their desired
haven [Jerusalem].
i) People cry out to God who redeems them from captivity and death and brings them to Jerusalem (“city for a dwelling place”; “desired haven”).
3) Psalm 107—TABERNACLES
a) PSALM 107:31-42 Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! 32 Let them exalt Him also in the assembly of the people, and praise Him in the company of the elders. 33 He turns rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground; 34 A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of those who dwell in it. 35 He turns a wilderness into pools of water, and dry land into watersprings. 36 There He makes the hungry dwell, that they may establish a city for a dwelling place [Jerusalem], 37 and sow fields and plant vineyards, that they may yield a fruitful harvest. 38 He also blesses them, and they multiply greatly; and He does not let their cattle decrease. 39 When they [rescued captives] are diminished and brought low through oppression, affliction and sorrow, 40 He pours contempt on princes, and causes them to wander in the wilderness where there is no way [the rebels]; 41 yet He sets the poor [rescued captives] on high, far from affliction, and makes their families like a flock. 42 The righteous see it and rejoice, and all iniquity stops its mouth.
4) Isaiah—The Day of Covering
a) Beginning in Isaiah 49 and continuing through the first part of chapter 61 are prophecies and descriptions of the Day of Covering. They are not about Tabernacles. While a few of the events of the Day of the LORD and Tabernacles are mentioned, the focus of these scriptures is on the suffering and redemption of the captives. The Jubilee portrays the liberation of captives who return to Jerusalem. These people are the first generation of those living during the 1,000 year reign of Jesus Christ. It is only in chapter 61 that the discussion switches from the Day of Covering and focuses on prophecies of abundance and peace in the land that portray Tabernacles.
b) ISAIAH 58:5-12 Is it a fast that I have chosen [the Day of Covering—a fast CHOSEN by God], a day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush, and to spread out sackcloth and ashes? Would you call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD? 6 “Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed [bondage and slavery] go free, and that you break every yoke [bondage and slavery]? 7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; when you see the naked, that you cover him, and not hide yourself from your own flesh? 8 Then your light shall break forth like the morning, your healing shall spring forth speedily, and your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard [God leads them]. 9 Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’ “If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, 10 If you extend your soul to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted soul, Then your light shall dawn in the darkness, and your darkness shall be as the noonday. 11 The LORD will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your bones; you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. 12 Those from among you shall build the old waste places; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations [the Millennium]; and you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, the Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.
c) ISAIAH 60:1-18 Arise, shine; For your [Israel’s] light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. 2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the LORD will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. 3 The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. 4 “Lift up your eyes all around, and see: They all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from afar [descendants of Israel rescued from captivity], and your daughters shall be nursed at your side. 5 Then you shall see and become radiant, and your heart shall swell with joy; because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, the wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you. 6 The multitude of camels shall cover your land, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all those from Sheba shall come; they shall bring gold and incense, and they shall proclaim the praises of the LORD. 7 All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together to you, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you; they shall ascend with acceptance on My altar, and I will glorify the house of My glory. 8 “Who are these who fly like a cloud, and like doves to their roosts? 9 Surely the coastlands shall wait for Me; and the ships of Tarshish will come first, to bring your sons from afar, their silver and their gold with them, to the name of the LORD your God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because He has glorified you. 10 “The sons of foreigners shall build up your walls, and their kings shall minister to you; for in My wrath I struck you, but in My favor I have had mercy on you. 11 Therefore your gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day or night, that men may bring to you the wealth of the Gentiles, and their kings in procession. 12 For the nation and kingdom which will not serve you shall perish, and those nations shall be utterly ruined. 13 “The glory of Lebanon shall come to you, the cypress, the pine, and the box tree together, to beautify the place of My sanctuary; and I will make the place of My feet glorious. 14 Also the sons of those who afflicted you shall come bowing to you, and all those who despised you shall fall prostrate at the soles of your feet; and they shall call you the City of the LORD, Zion of the Holy One of Israel. 15 “Whereas you have been forsaken and hated, so that no one went through you, I will make you an eternal excellence, a joy of many generations. 16 You shall drink the milk of the Gentiles, and milk the breast of kings; you shall know that I, the LORD, am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. 17 “Instead of bronze I will bring gold, instead of iron I will bring silver, instead of wood, bronze, and instead of stones, iron. I will also make your officers peace, and your magistrates righteousness. 18 Violence shall no longer be heard in your land, neither wasting nor destruction within your borders; but you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise.
5) Isaiah—Tabernacles
a) ISAIAH 61:1-11 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, 3 to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.” 4 And they [the rescued captives] shall rebuild the old ruins, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations. 5 Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the foreigner shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers. 6 But you shall be named the priests of the LORD, they shall call you the servants of our God. You shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory you shall boast. 7 Instead of your shame you shall have double honor, and instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land they shall possess double; everlasting joy shall be theirs. 8 “For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery for burnt offering; I will direct their work in truth, and will make with them [the rescued captives] an everlasting covenant. 9 Their descendants shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people. All who see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the posterity whom the LORD has blessed.” 10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, My soul shall be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 11 For as the earth brings forth its bud, as the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
6) Jeremiah 30—the Day of Covering
a) JEREMIAH 30:1-24 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 “Thus speaks the LORD God of Israel, saying: ‘Write in a book for yourself all the words that I have spoken to you. 3 ‘For behold, the days are coming,’ says the LORD, ‘that I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah,’ says the LORD. ‘And I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.’ 4 Now these are the words that the LORD spoke concerning Israel and Judah. 5 “For thus says the LORD: ‘We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace. 6 Ask now, and see, whether a man is ever in labor with child? So why do I see every man with his hands on his loins like a woman in labor, and all faces turned pale? 7 Alas! For that day is great, so that none is like it; and it is the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he shall be saved out of it. 8 ‘For it shall come to pass in that day,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘that I will break his yoke from your neck, and will burst your bonds; foreigners shall no more enslave them. 9 But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, Whom I will raise up for them. 10 ‘Therefore do not fear, O My servant Jacob,’ says the LORD, ‘nor be dismayed, O Israel; for behold, I will save you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return, have rest and be quiet, and no one shall make him afraid. 11 For I am with you,’ says the LORD, ‘to save you; though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you, yet I will not make a complete end of you. But I will correct you in justice, and will not let you go altogether unpunished.’ 12 “For thus says the LORD: ‘Your affliction is incurable, your wound is severe. 13 There is no one to plead your cause, that you may be bound up; you have no healing medicines. 14 All your lovers have forgotten you; they do not seek you; for I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of your iniquities, because your sins have increased. 15 Why do you cry about your affliction? Your sorrow is incurable. Because of the multitude of your iniquities, because your sins have increased, I have done these things to you. 16 ‘Therefore all those who devour you shall be devoured; and all your adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; those who plunder you shall become plunder, and all who prey upon you I will make a prey. 17 For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,’ says the LORD, ‘because they called you an outcast saying: “This is Zion; No one seeks her.” ’ 18 “Thus says the LORD: ‘Behold, I will bring back the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwelling places; the city shall be built upon its own mound, and the palace shall remain according to its own plan. 19 Then out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of those who make merry; I will multiply them, and they shall not diminish; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small. 20 Their children also shall be as before, and their congregation shall be established before Me; and I will punish all who oppress them. 21 Their nobles shall be from among them, and their governor shall come from their midst; then I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach Me; for who is this who pledged his heart to approach Me?’ says the LORD. 22 ‘You shall be My people, and I will be your God.’ “ 23 Behold, the whirlwind of the LORD Goes forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind; it will fall violently on the head of the wicked. 24 The fierce anger of the LORD will not return until He has done it, and until He has performed the intents of His heart. In the latter days you will consider it.
7) Jeremiah 31—the Day of Covering
d) JEREMIAH 31:1-22 “At the same time,” says the LORD, “I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be My people.” 2 Thus says the LORD: “The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness– Israel, when I went to give him rest.” 3 The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you. 4 Again I will build you, and you shall be rebuilt, O virgin of Israel! You shall again be adorned with your tambourines, and shall go forth in the dances of those who rejoice. 5 You shall yet plant vines on the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant and eat them as ordinary food. 6 For there shall be a day when the watchmen will cry on Mount Ephraim, ‘Arise, and let us go up to Zion, to the LORD our God.’ “ 7 For thus says the LORD: “Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say, ‘O LORD, save Your people, the remnant [rescued captives] of Israel!’ 8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the ends of the earth, Among them the blind and the lame, the woman with child And the one who labors with child, together; a great throng shall return there. 9 They shall come with weeping, and with supplications I will lead them. I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they shall not stumble; for I am a Father to Israel, and Ephraim is My firstborn. 10 “Hear the word of the LORD, O nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, ‘He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him as a shepherd does his flock.’ 11 For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of one stronger than he. 12 Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, streaming to the goodness of the LORD– for wheat and new wine and oil, for the young of the flock and the herd; their souls shall be like a well-watered garden, and they shall sorrow no more at all. 13 “Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old, together; for I will turn their mourning to joy, will comfort them, and make them rejoice rather than sorrow. 14 I will satiate the soul of the priests with abundance, and My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the LORD.” 15 Thus says the LORD: “A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted for her children, because they are no more.” 16 Thus says the LORD: “Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says the LORD, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. 17 There is hope in your future, says the LORD, that your children shall come back to their own border. 18 “I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself: ‘You have chastised me, and I was chastised, like an untrained bull; restore me, and I will return, for You are the LORD my God. 19 Surely, after my turning, I repented; and after I was instructed, I struck myself on the thigh; I was ashamed, yes, even humiliated, Because I bore the reproach of my youth.’ 20 Is Ephraim My dear son? Is he a pleasant child? For though I spoke against him, I earnestly remember him still; Therefore My heart yearns for him; I will surely have mercy on him, says the LORD. 21 “Set up signposts, make landmarks; set your heart toward the highway, The way in which you went. Turn back, O virgin of Israel, Turn back to these your cities. 22 How long will you gad about, O you backsliding daughter? For the LORD has created a new thing in the earth– a woman shall encompass a man.”
8) Jeremiah 31—Tabernacles
a) JEREMIAH 31:23-40 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: “They shall again use this speech in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I bring back their captivity: ‘The LORD bless you, O home of justice, and mountain of holiness!’ 24 “And there shall dwell in Judah itself, and in all its cities together, farmers and those going out with flocks. 25 “For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.” 26 After this I awoke and looked around, and my sleep was sweet to me. 27 “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and the seed of beast. 28 “And it shall come to pass, that as I have watched over them to pluck up, to break down, to throw down, to destroy, and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, says the LORD. 29 “In those days they shall say no more: ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children’s teeth are set on edge.’ 30 “But every one shall die for his own iniquity; every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge. 31 “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah– 32 “not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD. 33 “But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 “No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” 35 Thus says the LORD, Who gives the sun for a light by day, The ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night, Who disturbs the sea, And its waves roar (The LORD of hosts is His name): 36 “If those ordinances depart From before Me, says the LORD, Then the seed of Israel shall also cease From being a nation before Me forever.” 37 Thus says the LORD: “If heaven above can be measured, And the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel For all that they have done, says the LORD. 38 “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, that the city shall be built for the LORD from the Tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate. 39 “The surveyor’s line shall again extend straight forward over the hill Gareb; then it shall turn toward Goath. 40 “And the whole valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes, and all the fields as far as the Brook Kidron, to the corner of the Horse Gate toward the east, shall be holy to the LORD. It shall not be plucked up or thrown down anymore forever.”

Appreciate your sermons on Atonement. There were OT scriptures that I just did not know where they fit in God’s plan…now it is easier to see where they do…thanks.
Lee
And I TOTALLY concur with what Simone stated!! I did not realize how those OT scriptures fit in but it was made clear in this Atonement message!! 👍👍
